Discover Margaret River Wine Region
Published 07 Sep, 2020Flanked by national parks including towering forests, pristine coastlines and rugged granite outcrops, the Margaret River region is the quintessential Western Australian holiday destination.
This is award-winning wine country with a thriving art scene, incredible hiking trails, and a distinctly circular food philosophy with a great respect for the land and a champion of local ingredients.
With sheltered bays to the north, vineyards and surf coast along its length, and two oceans meeting at the southern tip, Margaret River is a region unlike many and with a wealth of things to do see and experience.
Springtime is a wonderful time to visit this beautiful region – with cool mornings, sunshine filled days – the best time for some wildflower walks and of course a plethora of award winning wineries and dining experiences.
Wine and fine dining is an integral part to the lure of the region for many – but so is the natural beauty, caves, walks and of course the amazing beaches and surf. The map highlights just a few key points of interest but there are too many to fit on the map.
There are many award winning and world renowned wineries in Margaret River – and you could spend days trying to visit them all – the region probably most renowned for it’s Chardonnay and Cabernet – has a very lively seen of new emerging varieties and wine making techniques. If Cabernet is your think – MRWA and MRBTA have done (some of the hard work for you) and created a Cabernet Trail aptly named ‘Cabernet for a Day’ For those Chardonnay lover’s – worry not there is also a trail for you with their ‘Make Way for Chardonnay tour.’ These tours are by no means exhaustive with such an abundance of brilliant wineries but they can certainly help point you in the right direction. Margaret River wineries and winemakers are a exciting bunch and there will no doubt be a wine style for almost every taste – and there are many suggested itineraries to help including a ‘Lo-Fi Wine Trail’
If you are a WA resident – you are lucky enough to enjoy this region right now – and we suggest with international travel a little while away, that you do soon as Spring is the perfect time to visit Margaret River be it for wine, walks, surf or wildflowers (or all of the above).
For the rest of Australia do bear this region in mind as a must-see when Interstate travel resumes. We do have some brilliant offers from a selection of top Margaret River wineries so you can get a little taste of Margaret River delivered to your door in the meantime.
