After quickly realising life as an accountant was never going to work, David Kelly dropped out of university and enrolled in Hotel Management school where his love of food, wine and travel could combine into a much more rewarding career.
For the next 20 years, he travelled the world, managing restaurants, bars, boutique hotels, luxury resorts and ski lodges in Australia, France, the UK and New Zealand – always with a focus on relaxed hospitality and serving great food matched to exceptional wines.
David Kelly says returning home to the Hunter Valley and joining Wine Selectors in 2006 was the best career decision he ever made – surrounded by fellow food and wine lovers who dedicate themselves to discovering a new favourite recipe and the quest of finding the perfect wine to match. So much wine, yet so little time!
His other passions in life (besides family) are beer and motorsports, but when he’s behind the wheel, he of course, avoids combining the two.
If DK was a wine he would be a Hunter Valley Semillon! They both hail from the HV and love all types of seafood … and hopefully with a little careful handling, will both still be drinking well for decades to come!
