Mount Towrong Vineyard
Published 30 May, 2024Situated at 600 metres above sea level with direct views of Mount Macedon and Mount Towrong, our cool climate vineyard enjoys moderate seasonal rainfall. Terracing the vineyard has allowed us to maximise the use of the gentle slopes and by practising sustainable farming techniques, we have been able to harvest high quality grapes with a low yield. Our Vineyard is farmed with the use of organic composts with no pesticides or herbicides used. Winter prunings are mulched back into the mid rows. All vines are cane pruned and grapes are handpicked.
George and Deirdre bought their property in 1991 and planted their first vines Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in 1994, with the help of family and friends. Nebbiolo was planted in 1999, and Prosecco followed in 2003. Recently, in 2019, a new variety Pinot Bianco was planted to complete the 6.5 acres of vineyard.
