Let’s talk Tonic
Let’s face it, every good gin needs an even better tonic, and as our friends at Fever-Tree Australia would say if 3/4 of your drink is the mixer, mix with the best. And we couldn’t agree more!
So if gin is your thing and you’re looking to step up your tonic game in time for Saturday then check-out Fever-Tree’s Ultimate Pairing Wheel to discover which tonic is right for your favourite gin.
Don’t forget the garnish
Pairing the right gin with the right Fever-Tree tonic is easy with their Pairing Wheel but don’t forget about the garnish. So we’ve rounded up a guide to gin garnishing for you and your gin-buddy!
It’s about time we stop thinking of garnish as just decoration because the right garnish will not only compliment your gin pick but enhance the botanicals in your gin (as well as making it look pretty too of course).
You’ve picked your gin, paired your tonic and now you’re ready to garnish. Here’s a basic guide to garnishing:
- London Dry Gins: The classic dry calls for fresh or dehydrated lime, lemons, grapefruit, or orange.
- Citrus Gins: Fresh is best so top your drink with fresh Coriander, Basil, thyme, Rosemary. No Herbs? No worries limes tend to pair well too!
- Floral Gins: You can’t beat a slice of cucumber or piece of citrus peel but if you like it extra ‘florally’ and a little bit fancy then top with fresh edible flowers.
- Spicy Gins: Balance the spice with cloves, cinnamon sticks, star anise, orange, peppercorns, red, and yellow capsicum (or you might be more familiar calling them bell peppers!)
- Fynbos Gins: A sprig of rosemary, even rocket, apple, basil, strawberries, or grapes.
- Savoury Gins: Make the gin sing by garnishing with olives, thyme, rosemary, basil, or even slices of tomato.
Ultimately it’s up to you and what you like. Mix it up this Saturday and discover something new with your Gin buddy.
