Julia Mellor is a Korean Traditional Alcohol Specialist who educates English speakers about the history, culture and science of Makgeolli (an alcoholic beverage made of fermented rice) and beyond. As an Australian citizen but a long term resident of Seoul, Julia discovered the world of Korean traditional alcohol in 2012 and began studying brewing, tasting, history and all there is to know about the modern Makgeolli industry.
She founded The Sool Company, previously known as Makgeolli Mamas & Papas Korea, as a means to communicate the invaluable information she had learned over the years to those interested in Korean alcohol culture both domestically and abroad. The Sool Compnay currently offers tasting tour experiences, brewery tours, brewing education, and industry consulting for anyone looking to expand and deepen their knowledge of makgeolli, soju and all the other highlights of Korean alcohol.
